Flu Shots & Preventative Care

Influenza (the Flu) is a serious illness affecting millions of Americans, of which about 250,000 are hospitalized each year. Of those, about 36,000 people, mostly over age 65, die each year from complications.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and above get a flu shot. The flu shot is a vaccine that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against three influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.

CHECKIN

Side effects from the flu vaccine are very rare. If they do occur, it’s within a few minutes to a few hours after getting the shot and may include soreness and/or swelling in your arm or cold-like symptoms. It is important to note that the benefits of getting a flu shot far outweigh the risk of flu shot side effects. The vaccine is typically covered by your insurance plan (contact your provider for details).

You can walk in to AFC Doctors Express Waltham Urgent Care any day of the week, from 8am to 8pm, for your seasonal flu vaccination, and take the steps to protect your health!
